The giant wheel on International Drive got the green light this week from county commissioners.
The deal was finally approved when the developers agreed to drop the plan to put a large advertising logo in the middle of the wheel, due to opposition from local traders.

Chuck Whittall company president of Unicorp said “We’re confident that everything we’re doing with the tenants and the incentives we’re discussing — that’s sufficient for us to move forward,”.
The whole project is set to cost $250 million and includes the wheel which is reminiscent of the “London Eye” along with attractions including Sea Life Aquariums and Madam Tussauds who are both owned by the Merlin Group who recently opened Legoland Florida and owns the London Eye.

The location of the development is on the former Mercado plot that has been vacant now for several years and the whole development should be completed within 2 years with areas opening within it by 2013.
